PROJECT U.S. = EDUCATING US + UNITING US + SERVING US

Coming April 2, 2011 at Southwestern Illinois College

logoEDUCATING US
The vision of Project U.S. directly correlates to community awareness and acceptance. Individuals with HIV or other diseases experience stigma and discrimination and may choose not to walk at all for their cause. The same is often true with victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and eating disorders just to name a few. The goal of Project U.S. is to dispel the myths and allow everyone to join together to build bridges and strengthen community connectedness.

UNITING US
Visionary Angela Barnes, President of Project U.S., (pictured left with #38 of the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers Carey Davis) is always meeting broken hearted individuals who not only have HIV, but could also wear 2, 3, even 4 cause related ribbons. She discovered individuals who choose to proudly wear one ribbon however who deny the other ribbons they may carry due to stigma. Ms. Barnes' vision is for "US" to walk as one, support one another, acknowledge all our "ribbons," and connect the passionate people behind so many worthy causes.

SERVING US
The proceeds of "Project RED" for example, as well as so many other fundraisers, are often filtered to those in need in Africa and around the world. However, Project U.S. begins with "us"- dollars raised remain in the "U.S." and the community specifically where the Weaving of the Ribbons Walk is held. The recipients are "us" directly or indirectly. The net revenue raised by this community walk will go back into the community to the cause-related non-profit organizations equally.

It starts with US!

Weaving of the Ribbons

How many threads are in a ribbon?
One never knows . . .
Put all the threads together
And watch the ribbon grow!

How many ribbons must we carry
To show the burdens we bear?
When we can wear just one ribbon,
~with all its colors~
To show that we care!

How many times do we walk together
For a certain cause?
Why not bring all of the colored ribbons together
And walk for them all?

I'll walk for you and you'll walk for me
and for those who cannot be here ~
One Ribbon Does Not Define 'US'
Let's walk along with our peers!

As we take each step we realize
It all begins with 'Us'
At the end of the walk
We'll show our country
It is that in God we Trust.
